New Piece

Posted on March 11th, 2010 under: Uncategorized by: David | Comments Off

The new piece has been in the window for the last few days and really stands out.  After I embossed the tin-plate, I decided to go ahead and add color.  Usually when I add color to my tin designs, it is subtle and muted.  On this one I wanted to put gold leaf in the Aspen leaves, which meant that the hollyhocks needed some color also.  I decided to use oil colors so there would be some texture in the painting and boy are the colors bright!  By adding and taking away patina I was able to create some shadowing mostly on the Aspen trunks and the third element, the mountain.  While this turned out to be a departure from my usual treatment of tin designs, I look forward to incorporating my new tricks into future projects.
